  • Table based pages are now the most common type of web page, but some more sophisticated designs now include layers as part of the design. Designers use layers for layout for a number of reasons
  • Gives great flexibility of layout for both text and graphics. You can place layers anywhere you want
  • Allows interactivity Layers can be linked to behaviours to trigger other events
  • Layers can be stacked on top of each other
  • Used alongside tables you can build up complex background graphical designs

Use of Layers and Tables

'Layers' are part of DHTML and a relatively recent addition to layout. Layers give very precise and easy positioning, as they can be picked up moved about with ease.
