Using tables in Dreamweaver - page 2

Tables in Standard View

Standard view is used for editing tables created in Layout view or you can insert tables directly in standard view.

Insertion is mainly used for 'nesting tables' on top of others. e.g. for a menu list or for data lists

  1. Editing Tables and Cells
  • Have the property inspector open. Click on the margins of the cell/table or CTRL /click in the cell and the display will show cell properties.
  • You can adjust the height and width of the cells and tables.
  • You can set cell padding, cell space and borders.
  • You can set the background colour and the border colour.

NB you must be careful when selecting because if the cell and table boundries are contiguous you will only see the blue cell border when selected. See diagram about setting and adjusting table and cell sizes

You can change the sizes on the property inspector or by selecting the cells and dragging them to the size required.

2 Merging or Splitting cells

You can increase or decrease column span by merging or splitting cells.

  • To merge a row so that it appears as one cell select the row and click the merge button on Property Inspector(or right click on row and select merge cells command)
  • To split cell use split button on Property Inspector (or right click in cell and follow split cell command).
