What Are Flash and Director/Shockwave?
![]()
These two programs are animation/movie programs, based
around an art working interface. You can make your own interactive animations
and movies for display on Web pages.
Flash uses vector based graphics and is popular for small web based work.
Director makes more ambitious animations and movies.
Shockwave (.dcr file) is a compressed version of a Director file (.dir file)
designed to be streamed for playing on the web.
Both programs are, like Dreamweaver, made by Macromedia.
See text file for more information.

Each Flash element is saved as a .swf file which must be uploaded onto the web site.
"The Flash SWF file (.swf) is a compressed version of the Flash (.fla) file, optimized for viewing on the web.
